10dec10:00 am3:30 pmPainting the Portrait using a Gridded Photograph with George ThompsonFor artists who have felt overwhelming challenges when painting the portrait.

Details

This workshop is aimed at artists who have felt overwhelming challenges when painting the portrait, or artists that want to take their portraits to the next level. The grid has been a well-kept secret used by masters from the Renaissance to modern painters. It is uniquely valuable for capturing the likeness and solving other drawing problems that arise with portraiture.

We will work on an accurate block-in from a photograph, skin color choices, value, light and anatomy. Once you try this method, the grid will become one of your favorite painting techniques.

This workshop is for advanced beginners and up… with some knowledge of painting in oils or acrylics. Gridded photo will be supplied.

Artists canvases should be gridded before-hand. 16 x 20 toned canvas, gridded into 1 inch squares with a pencil. More info on grid and supply list to come upon registration.

There will be a $5 fee (included in registration) for photos.

Please bring lunch or snacks as we break for lunch.

Cost: $60 plus $5 material fee, $65 total
