This drawing class is for the intermediate student that has had some previous drawing classes or experience. With this class we will explore more advanced drawing concepts such as composition and developing ideas, using as reference, still life, portraiture, and perspective theory. Various drawing materials will be discussed and explored as the class decides on the kinds of projects that would most benefit their interests. Come prepared to draw the first day!

Wayne is an Artist and Art instructor, showing work in professional exhibitions and Instructing students of all skill levels for the past 25 years. He received a BFA from Tyler School of Art followed by additional classes in painting techniques at PAFA.

The Doylestown Art League monthly meeting will be held at 7:30pm on September 7 at the James Lorah Auditorium at 100 Broad St in Doylestown. The meetings are free and open to all.

From the cave of Lacaux to the Sistine Chapel to our modern diversity of styles and techniques, the human imperative has been to fix an image on a surface, thought made visible. Drawing is the central means of this visual expression.

Wayne Hibschman, a drawing instructor for the Doylestown Art League, and local artist, will speak about the varied and essential role drawing plays in the creative process both historically and personally. “You do not know what something truly looks like until you have drawn it with your eyes.”

My class focuses on the individual's personal development and goals. Intermediate and advanced students working in oil or acrylic are best suited for my class. Students will work from photo references via ipads, etc. Subject matter may include portrait, figure or landscape and we will have demonstrations and discussions on these themes.

I have been an artist for many decades. Although I value my years of classical study, my artistic development has become increasingly more experimental and spontaneous. Lately, I am choosing palettes of color harmonies in tune with all of my senses, not just to describe what I see, but to engage as to what I feel.

Oils serve me best. I pay little attention to “art rules.” If someone thinks I use too much red, I may have considered using more of it.

I am a signature member of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society, an elected artist member of the Salmagundi Club, NYC and a member of the American Impressionist Society.
